Mistakes Made Talking to a Camera

Hopefully these are tips you can apply immediately that will help you out. To help you in your business, on zoom, in interviews or putting online content out there.

The first thing is a poor quality camera. Ensure your camera quality is high. The accessibility for a high quality camera is higher these days. Don’t have one? Does a friend?

Poor framing when filming or on zoom is a key thing as you don't want either distractions or portions being cut off. Is there anything distracting in the frame? Are you in the centre? Search “rule of thirds”

Poor lighting is an integral part of maintaining good quality of content. You don’t want shadows all over your face but you also don’t want you blown out. Have a test recording/call to see how it looks.

Props and your surroundings play a role in maintain the viewers focus with them not being distracted. Only have props if they’re going to benefit the session/call. Otherwise they could be a distraction.

I say this a lot to people but please use a microphone. The crispness of your voice can make such a difference. Sound quality is important for many obvious reasons as people will listen as well as look. Ensure this is set up correctly.

Take care of these steps every time you're on camera and I'll sure you'll do great and be professional.
