Does it Get Easier?

So you reach my stage of public speaking.

You've delivered on stage and over zoom/teams totalling over 1000 hours and you have a big gig come up.

Does it get easier?

Yes and also No.

It all depends on you and what you take on.

Yes:

  • It gets easier to be genuine.

  • It gets easier to influence others.

  • It gets easier to project your voice.

  • It gets easier to connect with friends and family.

  • It gets easier to negotiate position in conversations.

  • It gets easier to decipher those faking it and those making it.

Providing you make the right choice of what you take on.

Public Speaking can be tough when you get busy.

Generally you will get a huge surge in energy and a dump of energy at some point. A "buzz" of some sort.

I remember I had one day where I had:

  • A session to Japan digitally at 7am

  • A session in London live at 11am

  • A session in London live at 2pm

  • A session in London live at 3pm

  • A session in London live at 4pm

  • A session to NYC digitally at 6pm

  • A session to NYC digitally at 7pm

  • A dinner with friends 8:30pm

Then the following day another session with Japan at 7am.

TOO MUCH!

This is what is called Burn Out.

I had some brain fog, croaky voice, tired looking eyes on camera and felt all round incredibly drained.

The Inverted "U" theory displays this perfectly. Sometimes referred to as the Pressure-Performance Curve.

You want that sweet spot. You want that zone of optimum level of arousal.

So where does it get harder? When is the answer a No.

No:

It gets harder to say no.

It gets harder to neglect sleep.

It gets harder to neglect fitness.

It gets harder to not judge yourself.

It gets harder to repeat the same session.

It gets harder to socialise and speak to others on speaking days.

I can help you perform to the highest level. I went through that mental day above and learnt a lot. It'll be imperative to manage your life when you take on public speaking opportunities.

Public speaking does not necessarily mean on stage like what I do - it could be talking to your own clients, presenting your offering.

Twitter teaches volume and grind. But are you providing your best when the opportunities come your way?

Are you able to pause properly because your heart rate and blood pressure are stable?

Are you able to implement some public speaking strategy because you paid attention on my course?

Are you able to run through scenarios with me over MS teams because you are utilising your weekly call with me effectively?

I am here to help.
